Many parents today don’t spend quality time with their children. They spend more time outdoors than home and such lifestyle do have more negative effects in the lives of their children than the positive. They are busy with other things that are less important compare to their children.
As a parent, your schedule during the week might be tight but you should not be very busy to the extent that you won’t have time for your children.
Some parents would leave home as early as possible for work and yet get home late. I understand the facts that you are doing all these for your children. But the few hours you have during the weekend if spent with your children could cover up.
As a busy parent, how do you spend your weekend with your children?
Few years ago when I was coaching a student privately at home, I asked him a question, “Who do you like most between your mum and dad?”
“My mum”, he replied, “because my mum is always with us at home”.
I reasoned with him. Why? Children need the presence of their parents in order to share ideas, secrets and their experience with them. They might not have enough time during the weekdays because of the time available after completing all tasks scheduled for the day – house chores, school assignments and the time spent after school hour for tutorials.
The Importance of Parents Spending Time with Their Children
The quality time spent with children will help in:
- Building that broken relationship with your children.
- Promoting unity among the family.
- Improving good communication among the family.
- Making parents understand their children better.
- Reducing conflicts or crisis that might come up due to absence.
- Building trust in the family.
- Boosting the confidence of children.
- Making the children learn more from their parents.
Therefore, weekend is the time available for parents and children. This is when you have more time for your children. If you have not been having time for your children, start creating time for them now.
Let me tell you this:
If you ignore them now, they will ignore you later.
Having their time will make them have time for you in the nearest future.
