Anger: Can It Be Controlled In Marriage? | What Is Your Own Opinion?

In 2009, a study revealed that spousal anger is a contributing factor to depressive illness in the other spouse.

“The more hostile and anti-social behavior exhibited, the more depressed the spouses were after three years.” (Proulx C. et al., 2009).

Many homes are destroyed today by that little thing called “anger”.

This little thing either control you or you control it.

The  Scripture says in Ephesians 4:26 “Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath” (KJV).

I illustrated the effect of anger using a short story in my last post (you can read it here). There are lots of harmful effects of anger but I will want this topic interactive today.
Today, I want to know your opinion concerning the issue of anger in marriage.
You know that your you have the trait of anger in you but the questions I will like to ask you are:

  1. Do you control your anger or it controls you. There was a woman that destroyed her spouse’s motorcycle because she was angry. She couldn’t control it. Are you having this same challenge that whenever you’re angry, you make sure you break the breakables and destroy things. Later, you will then regret your actions. What steps are you taking to stop this habit?
  2. Have you hurt your partner due to the way you reacted at him/her all because you are angry?
  3. How do you deal with anger in your marriage to avoid hurting your spouse?

Before you give answers to these questions, note this:

The risk of excessive anger to health was shown in a 2016 global study of 12,000 first-time heart attack patients. The study found that being angry more than doubled the risk of having a heart attack when they compared people’s behavior in the 60 minutes before the onset of heart-attack symptoms with the same one hour period 24 hours earlier, (Smyth, A, Circulation, 134: Oct. 11, 2016).

  3. Anger can be controlled in marriage. Couples should learn toblive with each other and tolerate themselves.
I feel “so far a hungry man is an angry man” and it is often said that the way to a man’s heart is his stomach. So if he’s angry the wife has all in her capability to help control the anger……..if otherwise too, an appropriate measure must be adopted…., a man marries his wife so as to cope with all her strengths and weaknesses,……and majorly the weaknesses.
