There are many different kinds of prayer. Let’s look at some of them and see what we can learn:
THE PRAYER OF SURRENDER
A prayer the gets you submitted unto the Lord. It makes you submitted unto God’s will for your life. A prayer of humility. A prayer of repentance. You voluntarily decide to follow God rather than trying to get Him follow you.
As a result, He will do the work that needs to be done in you, so that He can do the work He desires to do through you.
THE PRAYER OF COMMITMENT
As long as you think you can do it all alone yourself without involving God in it, you will struggle to have it done.
In order words, if you keep trying to control everything or worrying yourself everytime, your stress levels will keep mounting. But once you learn to commit it into God’s hand, you will wonder why you spent even a day worrying.
You need to cast all your worries unto Him in the place of prayer because He cares about you.
THE PRAYER OF INTERCESSION
This is a prayer where you close the gap between someone whose relationship with God is broken due to sin.
As a believer, you have the privilege and responsibility of placing yourself in the gap and praying for them.
Not only the sinners, but also those having problems or going through challenges who need your prayer. It could be your loved ones – friends and family members, or someone you met who asked for your help in prayer – someone looking for the fruits of the womb, or someone looking for job and so on.
THE PRAYER OF PETITION
This is a prayer you make your heart desires known to God. You must learn to be confident in asking God to meet your needs.
It is written that, whatsoever you ask from God when you pray, believe that you will receive them, and you shall receive them.
The length of time is not the speed of how your prayer is answered. Likewise loudness and eloquence is not the issue. It is the sincerity of your heart that matters.
It is is the faith that is in your heart, and the assurance that you are praying according to God’s will that yields results.
THE PRAYER OF AGREEMENT
Jesus made us to understand that, whatever two or more people ask for in agreement, it will be done for them by God.
When you are up against something that is too big for you to handle alone, find a prayer partner and get into agreement in prayer. This is not for people who constantly live in strife, who decide to agree because they are desperate.
The Bible says, ‘Can two walk except they agreed?” God honours the prayers of those who pay the price to live together in harmony.
THE PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING
God won’t release us into the fullness of all He has planned for us until we become thankful for what we’ve already received. When your prayers outnumber your praises, it says something about your character – selfishness.
Those who are selfish are self-centred. They ask, but rarely appreciate.
A Yoruba adage says, “If you are thankful of yesterday, you will receive another one for today.”
Petition avails much; praise avails much more!
In every situation present your request to God with thanksgiving. Powerful living comes through thanksgiving. We can pray without ceasing by being thankful all day long.
Praise God for His blessing, goodness, grace, mercy, loving kindness, favour, provision, protection, and for all He has done which you see and that which you cannot see.
In conclusion, surrender yourself to God to guide you in praying the right prayer. He will give you utterances to ask according to His will by committing all unto Him to take charge. Intercede for for your family members, friends and loved ones.
Stop trying to impress God. It is not by how eloquent you are or how loud you prayer is. Also, it is not how long you spend praying. It is by pureness of heart and faith in God that matters for you to have results. If you don’t get result, check yourself.
When your family is facing challenges and you need help, ask God to lead you. He will touch the heart of men for you. You will find those who will pray with you as partners. They will always remember you in their prayers. As a parent, you can agree with your children in prayer. Likewise, you can pray with your spouse in prayer.
Lastly, the beginning and the end of every prayer is thanksgiving and appreciation. You appreciate God for what He has done at the beginning and thank Him for what He is about to, believing that He has done it. Show how grateful you are to become great.
